Play Area Surfaces Case Studies

Happy Faces

Happy Faces Montessori School - London. Tact carried out extensive groundworks including excavating and refilling of a large unused pond before laying their bespoke design play surface.  This incorporated many stimulating play elements, including a hopscotch grid, alphabet stepping stones, school logo and road awareness play system with traffic lights, roadway and zebra crossing. This bright, safe kiddies play area has truly enhanced the overall appearance of this backyard.

Overall project completion was achieved in four days.  Owner, Ann Guindi was suitably impressed - "a professional job, from a professional company - at last, just what I was looking for!"

Seizing the Opportunity

Croydon Opportunity Preschool resurfaced their existing paving slabs (split into two areas) with a bespoke design that would integrate hopscotch grids and vibrant stepping stones for hopping and counting fun.  The larger area incorporated a parking bay layout with roadway to encourage road and vehicle safety for their frequent toddler shopping trip games.

Project completion was achieved in an impressive two days.

Group Co-ordinator, Chris Watts was most enthused by the completed project's success - "Our new kiddies play area has continued to be much admired and has made a significant difference to our play times".

Backyard play area

This family wanted to make the best used of a back yard area for two lively little boys.  They wanted a solution that was creative and fun for the children as well as safe and practical.

Providing a DIY fit; TactTiles Play tiles were an immediate success.  The children's new play area uses the different colours to make up new games, while the Lacey parents are enjoying one or two unexpected benefits of their own.

Mr Lacey commented "I was amazed at how simple it was fit - all I did was follow the design provided and the tiles clipped together really easily.  The children are chuffed to bits to have their very own designer space that they can run around in so safely.  Even the wife's got a bonus - the new floor means the kids don't walk dirt into the house!"

Ben's play space

Another domestic play area for a family looking for an economical play area surface in their garden.  After much discussion, they removed the grass from the desired area and levelled the surface using sand and fine aggregate.  Alayer of geotextile purchased from the local garden centre was then laid on top and pegged down.  Finally TactTiles Piazza in Steel Blue were laid directly on top.

"Laying the tiles was so easy and good fun" Jackie told Tact, and she was delighted with the result that she sent over the pictures of Ben in his new play area.  "The surface is fine to play on for me and my son", said Jackie, "we were rolling around on the tiles - I couldn't do that on my hard patio or on the damp grass."

A safe new surface & lots of fun

This family centre pre-school nursery in Dublin had an area of rough undulating tarmac with a concrete walkway leading along the side of the school building.  Children had a tendency to trip over manhole covers in the grass and also on the concrete path edging.

Although the design plans were quite detailed, the play area installation was complete in one day - a revitalised area containing Alphabet Steps; Hopscotch Grid; Black and White Numerical Grid 1-100, and a road safety awareness element incorporating a Pedestrian Crossing, Traffic Lights and a Road Circuit to complete the area.
